The Link Between Your Diet and Your Stem Cells

It has long been known that our diet and the types of food consumed have a huge impact on the body and health. It is known that nutrition also affects your stem cells. Researchers of Stanford University discovered an amazing link between omega-3 fatty acids and the health of stem cells.

Omega-3 fatty acids (also known as ALA, EPA and DHA) is a fat that is found in plant oil such as flaxseed, soybean, and canola oils. It is also found in salmon and other fatty fishes. It is known to:

1. Nourish the brain

2. Lower blood pressure

3. Slow the build-up of plaque in the arteries thus decreasing your chances of heart attack or stroke

It is recommended to supplement if one’s diet does not already include these essential oils; it is important to meet the body’s daily recommended dose (talk to your doctor if you think this can benefit you).

How does omega-3's help your stem cells? Something important to know is that stem cells exist in fat. Fat cells can store fat in two ways: (1) deposit fat in existing fat cells resulting in the cells to get bigger and bigger (2) store fat in new fat cells so that the fat cells are small but more numerous. The healthier way to store fat is the second option and that is what omega-3's help to do. Omega-3's signal to the fat stem cells to divide resulting in more numerous, smaller fat cells leading to better health and better fat metabolism.
