News in Stem Cell Gene Therapy
Stem cell therapy and research is constantly evolving and improving. Just recently, a group of UCLA researchers in a conjunction with other international scientists found success in using stem cell gene therapy to treat a rare blood disease called X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (X-CGD). X-CGD is a genetic condition and mutation that would normally require the patient to receive regular blood marrow donations in order to treat and prevent chronic infections. Due to complications with this disease, patients often have lower quality of life and a shorter life span due to their susceptibility to infections.
In a group of nine participants, six were able go into remission after receiving stem cell gene therapy that are derived from their own cells, and not from donors. While this is still a topic of research, it's incredible to see how far science and research can take us in improving our health and wellbeing!
While we are waiting for more exciting breakthroughs, other forms of stem cell therapy are already available for use. While it might not be for genetic blood diseases, at Florida Stem Cell we use stem cell therapy to help you to decrease pain and discomfort due to injuries or degeneration such as shoulder pain, arthritis, and ACL tears. We use your body's own stem cells to increase your own body's ability to heal itself and possibly reduce the need for surgery.
